“….a flaming donkey….”

Regardless of who a person might apply that to, that actually suggests quite a scene.

I may have to think on that. (for just a short period of time, probably….otherwise, I tend to get straaaaangge ideas about how to…..ah, you don’t wanna know)

Yeah. . . that’s almost the worst part. That I learned a lot from him, that he still has a good eye for good stories and a good sense of strategy. Well, I’d say he’s 100% correct 50% of the time. Doesn’t seem to understand the Low-laying Yin in his need for Bombastic Yang. But, other than that, he was sooo good when he was good. Such a shame, really, for someonw so talented to hurt himself like this.

I echo your sentiment. I kept thinking through the whole USO debacle that, more than oweing any of us an apology, he owed it to himself. Hence the analogy I used comparing folks here to him helping his drunk friend at the bar. Many people tried to save him from himself, but, alas, the party crowd won out!

I was wondering how I was going to chime in…how to express my disappointment (which is really odd, because I never met or spoke with him, yet I felt I knew him…well) disillusionment (which, goes to the impact of his writing…Kevin is talented). And then I read your post.

I agree…especially with the 100 percent right, 50 percent of the time quote of yours. I think it (HB) just got overwhelmingly BIG (the Rush quoting him; the Entertainment Tonight and other network spots) and it all just started to unravel…so he lashed out (frustration, fear, just plain tiredness) at those who were most willing to support him (either financially, by talents or a combination of the two).

I was generically, summarily banned (but never got the WP ‘buzz off’ email) just can’t log in (and I thought that was MY problem on my end…so I repetively reset my WP password and kept clearing my caches and cookies). So I think I was just (like others) a screen name on the USO thread (my brainiac ways thought the site was hacked or iPhone stolen that fateful Sunday …yep…I am that gullible) and was just on the ‘list’ of those who ‘were there’ so we needed to get swept away.

I actually felt guilty because I was not in a position to donate to the site (though I did get swept up in Hottie McAwesomeness and donated a whooping $17.76 there). My plan was to send my donation at New Year (to help with the new site…did I mention that whole gullible issue I have?)

I do stand by my postings that I had made on HB relative to KdJ’s story telling skills…and hope that he gets a book published…maybe that will be the outcome of his new found fame. He can write; his readers can pay for his book; a win/win and the ‘proverbial happy ending’ without ‘soliciting donations and using other’s works.

Anyways, that is my (admittedly gullible, contrary feeling final assessment for MQ-C and MOSC).

The good that has come out of our collective experiences is the number of new blogs; postings; and passing of information that is coming from the network we (well our hosts, Motley, Finch, et al) have established. Our HB ‘history’ is unique…but our thoughts on the Country and the Obamination we are facing, is wide spread; and becoming more ‘acceptable’ (those ‘criticisms of Dear Leader are RAAACIST’ are soooo passe now, as the masses ‘wake up.’ As Limbaugh says ‘be the go to person in your family, group of friends, workplace…’ AND WE COLLECTIVELY ARE!!! We read the web; the comments; take notes; fact check; post, blog, rinse, repeat…and we are leaving a sticky trail of truth all over the web and all over the ‘newly awakened.’

The semantics don’t mean a damn thing to me.
‘Con man’…’Flake’…whatever.
The guy is a manipulative, dishonest USER who thinks he’s sooo special that he can spit in the face of the very people who ‘made’ him!
I think he’s clever, obviously a good writer and probably has a good heart…. somewhere.

However, I think he has serious psychological issues, and I think he’s getting worse. He seems to go from a sad, self-loathing, almost suicidal mood to a gung-ho, take no prisoners, full speed ahead mode, seemingly full of ‘positive energy’. This cycle has been repeated at least a couple of times since I discovered the site about a year ago.

I have a couple of emails from him in which he sounds like he’s way out of control. In one, I remember telling him to lighten up or he was going to have a stroke. I still think he could be bipolar. I have a relative with this disorder, and I have noticed some parallels, including the mysterious ‘self-destructive’ element, as noted by FTN.
She’s right, of course. It’s not typical for a traditional con man to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. In KD’s case, I think it’s something beyond his control.

sundancecracker says:

Totally agree with you on the descriptives/semantics. Attach whatever label you want the guy is dishonest. Period. Why? Well only he really knows. But, I tend to lean in two directions. Either he’s really and truely unstable (bi-polar, borderline personality, or ____(insert here___) I am no expert on psychoanalysis, not even close. OR, he is working a controlled financial agenda which includes a need to “refresh” the crowd being conned.

Even the Shell Game traditionalists (con-artists) would stop after a few victims, clear the crowd, and start over a few minutes later. Its neccessary…. or no-one will come forth and put money on the table…… But, I digress.

In my 40 years as a nurse, I’ve been exposed to a lot of people with genuine mental disorders. And some fakes. The con man and the mentally-disturbed “flake” may produce the same result for their victims. I would be just as dead if I were shot through the heart by an insane person as I would be if I shot myself by accident, or somebody else did it on purpose. That’s where intent comes in, and, given the evidences of instability that so many of you have seen at HB over the years, I am not convinced that any of us are able to accurately “read” his intent and make a definitive decision about who he is and what he was trying to do.

Both a con man, AND someone with delusions of grandeur, can make grandiose plans, and spin plausible scenarios which lure others into his toils. I wouldn’t like to be trapped by either one of them, since the outcome would likely be the same, but I would have a harsher judgment against the man with malicious intent from the outset than I would for the man who had a disordered mind. Are you SURE you know where KD fits?
Reply
AFinch says:
December 3, 2010 at 3:03 pm
Nope–not sure where he fits, which is why I have concluded nothing more than that anyone who deals with him should do so with caution. I am quite confident, though, that none of the accusations I have made have been reckless or without basis. He is, in fact, a liar. He does, in fact, lie to gain/keep the confidence of his readers. That is the text-book definition of a confidence man, i.e., a con man. I don’t need to know what the con is to know that a con is, in fact, taking place. Maybe he has other issues that prevent him from perpetuating the con. It doesn’t change the fact that the con occured.

No one is doling out judgments here. For purposes of warning people to engage with caution, it does not matter why he is lying or what he hopes to accomplish with his lies. The point is, he lies. What you decide to do with that information–whether in your heart, your mind or the court of public opinion–is your own choice.

Many years ago, we became friends with a pastor and his family after having been members of the congregation for a time. He had such an obvious “open-door” welcome for newcomers into the congregation. We had been around long enough to observe first hand that it was almost guaranteed that a certain % of folks who came in smiling and gladhanding turned out to be liars, users and abusers. The longer I saw this, the more I marveled at his honest welcome to the next set of newcomers, so I asked him about it, “How is it that you genuinely welcome folks….when you know from experience that some of them are being dishonest in their presentation of themselves?” His answer: “Oh, I always relate to people based on what I know about them. When I first meet them, that will usually be what they tell me about themselves, so I relate to them based on that. As time goes along, I will learn things about them for myself, and then I relate to them based on that. If what I learn about them as we go along is different that how they presented themselves at the beginning, that is when I change how I relate to them. So I never ‘feel responsible’ for seeing through everybody at the beginning.” I think that keeps it pretty simple.

I’m really not even that curious about what makes Kevin tick. I have seen what he does. Not everyone had the same experience with Kevin (or Aussie), so each one will not have the same knowledge of them. That’s not surprising. I saw firsthand that Aussie treated FtN like crap with no solid rationale for it: first she called her a troll; then she called her a liar. Not nice. Not true. Never retracted.

Housemom recognized FtN as Susan. Bev, in a valiant effort to get her exercise over for the day, indulged in the strenuous mental gymnastics necessary to turn that into Susan Traversy. Aussie was just Bev’s echo chamber. And a very fine job she did, she did, she did.

Someone (I forget who) pointed me back to snarkopolitan early on, where the REAL Susan Traversy apologized to me for my being mistaken for her. What a nice lady! She also denied doing anything that Kevin said she did. Now I realize anybody can make online denials, but so, too, can anyone make online accusations. I’d give her, at this point WAY more credibility than I would give him.

ABSOLUTELY Susan Traversy has waaaaaaaay more credibility than K at this point. Shouldn’t we be defending her, and inviting her here. WHAT A HORRIBLE THING HE HAS DONE TO HER. It was very much like what he did to us, and none of us would have been the wiser if he hadn’t done it en mass. I had no idea when I received his personal email to me that I “needed help” that he was doing what he was doing to others. Imagine what Susan was put through, and I, miss gullable here, bot K’s version hook, line, and sinker. A truly BIG wrong was done. Ugh how I would have felt if it had just been me. Ugh how I felt anyway – - – by the whole thing.

But, but, but, and treading lightly here, when Bev or Aussie did that, I just assumed they knew what they were talking about. I had no idea it was the Susan it was!!! So they weren’t attacking YOU. They were attacking the Susan they thought it was – - – however wrong and misguided, YOU were not attacked – - -at least in that moment.

Any hoot, the really big injustice here is the dragging of the other Susan’s name, and address, as I recall, on more likely a lot of really really bad lies, across the internet, and then me buying into them. UGH.

I haven’t said anything before. Don’t worry, you haven’t been unobservant! He’s 95, and has a cardiac condition so severe that his cardiologist told me in April he should already be dead. But he’s not, and except for unpredictable, weird, scary spells, he putters along pretty uneventfully. But the general trajectory is down, and I’m very well aware that you can only decline so long before you hit the bottom.

I will tell you, though, that hospice is the greatest invention of man and they have been thoroughly wonderful people. As a nurse, I don’t need a lot of medical consulting, but the support they give is incredible. If anyone ever cares for a dying relative, ask for hospice to help you out.

KD needs to look up the definition of blackmail (the extortion of money by the use of threats) and then look in the mirror. You were simply demanding a good or service in exchange for the price you were paying. He made you feel guilty for demanding that he behave like a responsible blog owner. That, my friend, is the very definition of emotional blackmail–making you feel guilty and question your own judgment for not doing what he wanted you to do, i.e., give him money with no questions asked.

To All:
A friend of this site has asked me to post the titles of two books you might want to read to help you make sense of all of this nonsense:

Stop Walking on Eggshells
Why is it Always About You?

I have not read either of them, so I can not vouch for them personally or give you any specific info, but they sound very interesting and appropriate.

In addition, I wanted to share this small suggestion: While talking about what has happened can be helpful, eventually we will all need to accept that there will be unanswered questions in the end. In order to gain closure and move forward, perhaps it would be cathartic, at some point, to dedicate a post to “Why I am thankful for KD…” When we’re ALL ready, of course.

When we can only see negative, we are operating out of hurt and anger. When we can see the positive, and feel compelled to return, we are operating out of fear and neediness. Only when we can see the positive, yet are content to stay away, will we know that we are truly healed.

AliRose, Thank you for your thoughtful words. I was not emotionally hit by K. It has been an interesting day walking through this post. One thing I observe is the assumption and reaction to expressed hurts, negatives, and desires to distance one’s self from where they no longer feel safe is that those are the only feelings these people maintain. I think a neutral feeling – not positive or negative is the capstone to healing along with acknowledging and appreciating positive memories of the relationship.

My thoughts are a “Thankful Post For Kevin” does not work with the philosophy of the last paragraph because it is, albeit from a distance, continuing the dialogue and relationship with Kevin and does not fit in with, “..yet are content to stay away.”
Reply
AliRose says:
December 4, 2010 at 2:26 am
Actually, my assumption is the opposite. I believe that the negatives are not the only feelings that people maintain. Hence, the suggestion to, at some point, express the positives. For the thankful post, I only meant “…becasue he brought all of us together.” or “…because he motivated me to phone bank for the first time.” It’s not actually re-engaging in the relationship. It’s a refocusing and redirecting exercise to help bring closure to a negative situation. I know that I would find it inspirational to hear how each of you have changed. It gives me goals for how I would like to grow in the future.

It’s not my party. It was only a suggestion. I’m completely okay with everyone healing in their own way.

Aaah, Ali (sounds like something Cary Grant would say.) Scattered throughout the Hello World thread and open forums their are the comments you suggested; almost to the exact wording. They are staggered and each time I came across one, I would smile. It is amazing that with the vast differences in how people are wired that a handful of steps to healing appear to be universal, even though the time at each stage/step differs as does the intensity. I am sure your words and contributions throughout this thread have hit a cord with many. Depending on which stage of the process they are in influences whether the intended words of encouragement and edification are received enthusiastically or with snark. Don’t you just wish we could kiss the boo-boo and it would be all better?

It is your party, you got a hat and tooter at the door, and it nice you stayed around to help clean up now that the other partiers are all crashed out. (Who is that snoring anyways?)

Love that post Motley. specially about the hat and tooter at the door. Great way with words and really makes the point.

A lot of what Ali says resonates strongly with me, and I wonder if the difference is that you were not emotionally hit. I felt I was, but then I’m quite sure I ‘let’ myself be. The emotions ran the gammit from feeling I had done something wrong, to heartbroken, to betrayed, to feeling like a fool. Yea, I think there is a difference if you got really emotionally investedm, and a different healing/venting/growing from window for everyone. And, i think because there were so many positives we each took from it might have all the more contributed to the forced withdrawal from it =(

I have to say I was deeply touched by your concern and affection for one another throughout this whole thing. It was only with sadness that I read that KD had treated you so poorly, as you all seem like decent folks.
I seemed to have touched a nerve with KD, but I never threatened him in any way, and I do not use homophobic language.
There are others here who know that he has no compunction about altering emails or posts to suit his purposes, whatever those may be.
KD did mention, just a few days ago, that when he is in NH next primary season, he is going to stand in front of my house and wait for me as I run out in my housecoat and try to attack him with a vial of the AIDS virus. Someone will be filming this.
I am hoping that nobody is emptying out the fish tank that day, just for his sake, as the average temp in NH in January is 17 degrees.
FtN, greetings, and thanks for the nice words on this board and over on Snarkopolitan. I am sorry to hear about your Dad, and hope he is resting comfortably.
Integrity1st, I very much appreciate the post above. It was very disturbing to know that everyone thought I was insane, or whatever words KD used to describe me, so thanks. I get the idea that you are in or close to NH, so rest easy, nobody is going to be running around attacking conservatives!

Hello all you former Hillbuzz regulars. I have been a regular reader but only very occasional poster there, and did witness the USO meltdown. Wondered where everyone went since there is definitely a decline in posts since then. Another odd incident — I don’t recall if any of you were there, but it came shortly before (a few days a week? I’m not certain of the timing) I sat at my computer for an hour waiting while KD was a no-show guest host on Megan Fox. What was odd was that there was no comment from him the next day about the show, why he wasn’t there, or if there was some technical difficulty. I noticed a phone post later the night of the show from one of his regular boystown hangouts. Hmmm.

During USO meltdown, on which I did not post (cowardly restraint) it seemed as though there may have been a few or more cocktails involved. He reacted explosively when someone suggested it. Everyone deserves a social life, but the Chicago gay lifestyle revolves heavily around a very active night-club scene. I have more than a passing acquaintance with substance over-use but hope that I am totally wrong. Wrong or not, I will pray for KD that he sheds a little ego and uses his considerable writing talent for positive change in the world.

Seriously, I think it is reasonable to trust a person until they betray that trust. Shame on him, not on you. You tried to do a kindness to KDJ, and he didn’t view that kindness the way he should have.

I also donated — twice. The first time to cover 8/28 expenses, with no response. But I knew it went through as it was deducted from my Paypal account. The second time — to help with the campaign against Jan Shakowsky (I’m a fellow Chicagoan) — I did get a nice thank you email. I don’t feel foolish, neither should any of you, as I felt both were worthy endeavors and can only hope that the money was put to good use. I have learned that sometimes the best path for me is to relinquish my expectations of others. The outcome is not up to me and a good deed is a good deed, regardless.

I remember that time he was supposed to be on the Megan Fox show. It was very strange indeed.

Snarkopolitan’s December 10 post adds new context to the meltdown of the Summer of 2009. Apparently, he was considered for a fund raising position in CYR and had a meltdown after someone else was selected for the job instead–details he never shared with his readers.

It also adds context to his ongoing war against CYR. He is not, as he has claimed, merely a neutral observer only interested in what is best for the country.

Mrs. Polly has a new item posted. There are a couple of details I didn’t know about previously, so I posted a comment. Also, she asked a couple of direct questions and I thought she deserved a response.

BTW, KD is up to his old tricks (the ‘hate mail’ fantasies), which is pretty disgusting.
Dammit! I wish there was some way to shut him up! That is out and out slander!
Also, he’s promising a new site by the end of next month! HA!

ATTN HB Historians…….Violet asks, (Originally posted in a different thread)

“I hope it’s okay to ask this question here; if not, maybe one of the moderators could move it to the proper place.

Like most of you, I’m a refugee from HB, and I was a little slow to see what was going on and get out. I stumbled on this blog by accident (long story) and have appreciated being able to get answers to some of my questions about what happened at HB. However, reading through some of the earlier threads in an effort to get answers also raised a few new questions. Those of you who are in the know throw around certain phrases which I sometimes think everyone but me understands. One of them is “Kumquat Project.” Another is “the ‘Fourth Wall’ post.” I have NO idea what those things mean. Can someone enlighten me?

(I almost feel guilty bringing this up, knowing that many of my fellow refugees have gotten over it and moved on and don’t care to have the past dredged up … but if someone could clue me in, I would appreciate it very much.)

The Kumquat Project was a collection of postcards, collected by ChrissytheHyphenated and angelaisms for posters as far world-wide as possible, with a favorite saying on it and a pretty picture from their locale, to be given to the “BoyZ” around Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, while that was in progress, Kevin got mad at angelaisms for ever-so-gently defending her Mormon faith, and at me for suggesting that he find a trusted friend to proofread his posts so that, since he was starting to hit the big time, he would look sharp and professional right of the bat. I would’ve been happy to proofread them for him, but thought it was a bit bold to suggest myself. If I had suggested myself, I’m pretty sure he would’ve been offended that I implied I could brush up any work of his; since I didn’t offer, out of shyness to the famous blogger, he was able to be offended that I HADN’T offered to proofread for him and use this as evidence that I was just a critical nitpicker, willing to complain but not to help.

He then wrote the 4-th wall post, where he removed the 4th wall of his apartment so that people could look into his life and see what it was like to be Kevin duJan, who got attacked on every poor, brave side by mean, brutal women! Angelaisms and I were trotted out anonymously, unlike poor Susan Traversy, as types of the crosses he was forced to bear in order to carry his message of conservatism to the masses. Chrissy broke with him over that, and the Kumquat Project became somewhat of an oddity that I don’t know yet if anyone has figured out what to do with it, especially now that most of the people who sent post cards are no longer HB posters, but are over here.

I suspect that Chrissy had, for some time, had a somewhat calming effect on Kevin, because after she left he started getting odder and odder, until the USO thread, and the nuclear fallout from THAT pretty much left HB a wasteland, as far as faithful readers and posters went. And they certainly “went,” didn’t they?!

Thanks so much for explaining, Susan. I really appreciate your taking the time!

Like a lot of other people, I was a huge fan of HB for quite a while… right up until the USO debacle. I was horribly disillusioned after that… but old habits die hard, and I continued hanging out there, even though it seemed most of the good people had disappeared, for which I certainly couldn’t blame them.

Then one day I was scrolling through yet another long rambling screed by K. talking about how all the horrible things his enemies say about him have made him a pariah and ruined his life and rendered him unemployable and so on. I had heard him say things like that countless times before, and I’d always accepted them at face value, I suppose for the same reason that I’d believed that Panda and Robbie and Joaquin and Sebastian were real people — because I couldn’t think of any reason someone would make up stuff like that.

Well, finally curiosity got the better of me, and I wondered just what sorts of horrible things people were saying, and who these horrible people were who kept telling lies about K., so I did a little search. Unsurprisingly, a lot of what I turned up was ad hominem attacks on K., and of course the ubiquitous accusations of racism — which I was expecting, having heard K. talk about them so much. So, thus far, nothing surprising or unexpected or especially interesting.

But along the way I also stumbled across other information that was more disturbing, since it made me begin for the first time to doubt K.’s veracity. I already knew from the USO fiasco that he lacked tact and sensitivity, but I had never suspected him of being deceitful. Call me gullible, call me naive — I was hornswoggled. Me and heaven only knows how many other people…

Well, eventually in the course of my web surfing I blundered upon this wonderful little community, where I immediately felt at home and among friends. The funny thing is that it wouldn’t have happened if it hadn’t been for K.’s relentless complaining about how everyone keeps telling nasty lies about him and messing up his life. You think maybe someone ought to warn him to tone down the complaining?

Well, nobody likes to find out they were taken for suckers, but at least we’re in good company, aren’t we? The fact that Kevin’s cyber-wounds are pretty much entirely self-inflicted is one of the reasons I consider the possibility that there’s more to this than unregenerate shysterism. I know there are others who disagree. That’s fine. I didn’t spend the time it took me to get to the place where I can snuggle intimately with 63 years of age, simply being a rubber stamp for the opinions of others. I don’t think we’re going to know for sure–EVER–what combination of pathologies swirled around in the mind behind HB, but that there are “paths” to “ology”, I have no real doubt.

You live. You learn. You move on. And if you’re lucky to have a bad memory, as I have, you forget a lot of it very quickly and pretty soon it doesn’t matter much at all any more.

Hi, Violet! Glad you found us. Good for you for ‘keeping at it’!
I think one of the terrific things this bunch has ‘in common’ is that we are resourceful, and that is how we managed to reconnect.

Susan explained things very well. She was treated dreadfully by Dujan, and we owe her a huge debt of gratitude, because as things transpired he revealed his true self and that’s when the ball started rolling and picking up steam.
I agree with her opinion that there is something ‘wrong’ with Dujan. This is not just from his postings online, but also from private emails I exchanged with him. He is definitely ‘unbalanced’.

You said, “You think maybe someone ought to warn him to tone down the complaining?”
The thing is, ‘complaining’ is his MO! He gets the gullible posters to feel sorry for him and they send him MONEY. You see…that is the dirty little secret. It’s all about the money. He uses it to support himself. It’s a scam he’s running!

Before we all caught on, I personally tried to tell him to tone it down, both on HB, and in private emails. I remember one in particular. MOTUS (Michelles Mirror) posted a picture of him that he found unflattering. He absolutely LOST it and started ‘screaming’ and calling her all kinds of vile names. I emailed him and told him he was sounding like a crazy person. It was just over a silly picture, for Pete’s sake. He really hurt her feelings with his extreme overreaction.
I guess he realized I was right, because he deleted the comments, but it’s a pattern that he can’t help repeating.
Anyway, he’s BEEN warned, but either can’t or won’t listen.

Well, I re-read some of what I wrote above, and so I won’t trot it all out again before your weary eyes. But this last little interchange has renewed in me the sense of amazement and how VERY unnecessary this public meltdown was, and how incredibly strange it was for Chrissy, angelaisms, and me–in many ways strangers to each other, and strewn across US territory from East to WAY West–could, entirely inadvertently, precipitate this implosion simply by making private, well-intentioned overtures to a man who didn’t have the good sense to keep his resentment under wraps. He could’ve ignored us. He could have said, “Thanks for your interest, but I disagree with your conclusions and recommendations.” Instead, he chose to make his snit extremely public. You’d have thought we’d snagged a valuable-but-unspecified body part, and run it through the wringer!!

Nobody ever needed to hear about his dispute with the 3 of us. We never told it outside what we said to each other. If Kevin had simply kept quiet (I know, I know–just fantasize with me!), this whole cascade of events that culminated in HB’s mass exodus and the inauguration of honey trails would probably never have happened. We’d still probably think dear Susan Traversy was a vicious, homophobic troll, that Kevin’s stories were true, that the Boyz were building a website for the promotion of conservative values towards which we were SO lucky to be able to contribute financially, yadayadayada. And not only that, weren’t we cool to be hearing all this inside dish, to be in the know?

He did it to himself, unprovoked and unnecessarily, and it will always boggle my mind that I, living in a little house, in a little town about 1/2 mile long, can find myself being discussed internationally on multiple blogs, some of which I’ve only run across by chance. I didn’t do it to me, anymore than I “destroyed” Kevin DuJan. Whatever havoc he has wreaked on other lives, I think he’s done (and will do yet) more to sabotage his own dreams and plans than he has ever done to anybody else.

I have absolutely no concern for whatever pain or havoc he has brought upon himself or his friends. I’m sure he’ll continue to stew in his own juices for many tortured and frantic years to come. My only concerns relate to the disservice he may be doing to the conservative movement.

I was being facetious about warning K. to quit his whining. You’re right, of course — that’s how he garners sympathy and donations. But he also risks arousing the morbid curiosity of people like me, who — even while I still was being bamboozled by him — couldn’t help wondering just what it was that people were saying about him… which prompted my google search… which led me (in a very roundabout way) to HT. Not the sequence of events K. was aiming at when he launched into his “woe is me” routine! But you’re right — warning him yet again isn’t going to do any more good than the previous warnings did. He then personally emailed me and asked me to write to MOTUS and request that the photo that she had posted of him be removed – which I found to be rather odd….but I wrote a very kind note and asked MOTUS to do remove the pic. violet, it appears to be the same one ‘cropped’, and yes indeed, that is the one that put him over the edge. I can kinda see why, if he’s comparing himself to the new one in the green T-shirt. He’s much slimmer and looks like a different person (although I personally think he looks like a creeper in the new one, but did’t dare tell him so).

As far as “taking the time,” it was no problem. My dad, after spending the last 2 days looking like he was on the verge of death, decided to climb over the bedrails (it was the 1st time I’d ever put them up) last night about 2:30 in the morning, and toddle off to the bathroom on his own…so I was up anyway with nothing to do while waiting for progress!

I went throught much the same with my Dad about three years ago. He had rapidly progressing dementia and was a danger to himself and those around him. My brother moved back into the house after Mom died to see after things…and the battle was on.

He once awoke in the middle of the night thinking the house was on fire. He proceeded to drag in the garden hose and flood the entire house before my brother woke up. We finally had to trick him into entering an Alzheimer’s facility by telling him we were taking him on vacation to a nice new hotel. He stayed there two nights, then escaped into the dark, late on Christmas Eve, when the door was briefly unwatched. I’ll end my tale there.

I wonder if the ‘fire’ thing goes along with Alzheimer’s? My dad took the hose and turned it on my then seven year old daughter. No damage was done other than scaring her half to death.

One other time he was walking around the house with no pants on, and I told him he couldn’t have dinner until he go dressed. As I stood there watching, he calmly donned a pair of imaginary pants.

I shouldn’t laugh…should I? I’m sorry, but the ‘imaginary’ pants was quite inventive. I hope your daughter has managed to put the event behind her and has only the happy memories left.

The house flooding was only the beginning with my Dad. He got quite violent as things progressed and eventually had to be sent to a psychiatric facility. He literally went stark raving mad. To think that a man once so kind and amiable could undergo such a complete change of personality is terrifying.

Your question about fire being related to Alzheimer’s is really interesting. I googled it and found an article disgussing “Sundowners Syndrome”. Apparently they get quite agitated in the early evening, and things worsen into the night. Looking back on it, that is exactly how it was for my Dad.

Well, I’ve been reading over this thread, trying to figure out what-all Kevin has done and to whom. I can see that the man gets to prancing around and sniping and snipping and spitting at all in view. So far we’ve speculated that it’s manic-depression, multiple personality disorder, alcoholism, and somebody (EZBurns?) spotted the main components of narcissism – grandiosity, self-centeredness, lying. I guess everybody here has known somebody who exhibits these behaviors, although narcissism, thank God, is uncommon. I guess I lean toward alcoholism, the kind where the nice guy turns into an asshole when he gets to that point in his evening’s drinking.

I must say that Kevin can be “up” and on target, and aware of what’s going on in the world, and seem on the whole to be pretty sunny. Maybe he’s having a good romance at those times, or has enough money to feel secure. And then he tips over into “mean fag” syndrome – for what reason, there’s no telling. Right now he’s “up” again, to judge by his writing.

Old Crank, I’m going to have to disagree. I think K can do very much damage to a cause that needs to restore a sense of trust, sanity, and build in the ranks. Kevin, for all his talents is a danger to any credibility conservatives, Palin, or even his followers might otherwise have, and he is completely UNSTABLE.

old crank, I agree with Integrity, I’m afraid. Dujan has pretty much become a laughing stock in the blogosphere. While he may once have had a shot at becoming involved in a ‘grass roots’ movement for Palin, he blew that and them some.
IMHO, if he’s smart, he’ll keep his head down and just play at his little blog, talking about Boystown, drag queens and the usual frivolous stuff and stay the hell out of national politics.

Crank, I agree with Integrity and Bijou. KdJ’s “conservatism” strikes me as a very dubious proposition, and I don’t think his apparent devotion to Sarah Palin is necessarily rooted in “conservatism” either. His recent postings on Michael Steele, for instance, have been weirdly contradictory, but useful in illustrating his limited comprehension of either conservatives or internal party conflicts. I think the links in Snarkopolitan’s Dec. 10 posting about duJan and his relationship to the Chicago Republicans are pretty troubling in their implications, and again illustrate how all his remarks about party politics even in his own backyard have been colored by self-interest and absolutely unreliable. Boystown, as it turns out, is not the center of the political universe; better that we regard HB as an ongoing and sometimes entertaining fiction, as long as we don’t confuse reports from there for any kind of reality.

In short, I don’t believe a word KdJ says about anything, including his devotion to Palin. As Mary McCarthy said of Lillian Hellman, “everything she writes is a lie, including ‘and’ and ‘the.’ ” Nobody of any ideological stripe should be hitching their wagons to the Hillbuzz shooting star.

Well, I wouldn’t complain if some leftist, like Hillary Clinton, were to hitch her wagon to the Hillbuzz brand. But I would prefer my chosen candidates to stay far, far away.

KDJ is not a conservative and doesn’t even really claim to be. The infamous USO post proved that–he set himself up (the caring, giving volunteer) in contrast to conservatives (the lazy, Costco shopping Pepsi drinkers). Anyone who truly understood conservatives or counted himself among them would never have written that post.

violet says:

Good point, AFinch. As several people attempted to point out to KDJ on the USO thread itself, conservatives are demonstrably MORE generous with their time, energy, and money than liberals are. Mr. Dujan was having none of it, of course, and just kept demanding over and over that we list everything we do for charity — and whenever a reader did so, he either ignored or belittled them.

Mr. Dujan seems unaware that true conservatives do not brag about their charitable work or donations — partly because it’s obnoxious and unseemly, partly because Jesus specifically instructed his followers NOT to do it. I wonder if the nuns who taught him in elementary school ever mentioned that to him?

Richdet says:

AFinch, I would say Hillary is indelibly linked to HB, whether she wants the association or not. There she is in the masthead and the title and so on. I always think of KdJ as a “Democrat in exile,” loyally awaiting the Restoration of his Good Queen Hillary to the throne. At least that branding, if duJan resorted to it, would be honest.

I have to disagree about his not claiming to be “conservative.” He tosses that label in as much as he dares, and judging by comments I see in conservative forums, and judging by comments at HB itself, all too many buy into it uncritically. Admittedly he usually casts himself as a “gay conservative,” as though that might be a special category unto itself. But his current posts on his main page include such declarations as these: in one he says, “I’m to the right of probably 80% of people who call themselves ‘conservative’ ” and in another he describes himself as an “out and proud (and vocal) conservative.” He definitely wraps himself in that persona every chance he gets.

Those who are more analytical will notice this conservatism of his is superficial at best, and in my view exploitive and manipulative (keeps the donations flowing in, and provides a profile he wouldn’t otherwise have — if he were honest about himself, he would just be another gay blogger and sorely in need of a day job). But I can’t blame readers who initially buy into his act at face value, if only for the novelty of it, and that is why I would argue a thread like this is useful — a good place to air the ways duJan is no conservative though he plays one on cyberspace.

Sundance, why WAS he given the boot by C4P? I’ve been there maybe twice – it’s no wonder my views are at odds with everybody’s here: I have no idea what’s going on in the cyberworld. I actually have only my own impressions to judge Kevin by. I didn’t consistently agree with him, and I didn’t like his continual snarking on the FLOTUS and her dress – not that she didn’t deserve it often enough – but it was not respectful, and SHE didn’t run for office.

If he is actually doing actual damage to the conservative cause, I would want to take out an ad in the NY Times or the WSJ and announce to the world that he’s crazy and we want no part of him. If it’s just that his rants about, say, LeNa Janowski are over the top or his insistence that Obummer burst into tears at a press conference, I can’t see where that really hurts us – actually I think they’re funny. Do you suppose that his repeated assertions that there are secret conservatives among the denizens of Boystown could be outright lies? Wishful-thinking lies? Made-up bedtime stories to comfort conservatives? I hope they’re true, but if they’re not, well – I still don’t see how they hurt us. Hey – there are lies in the media! I’m shocked! Shocked!

Well, no, I don’t advocate lying. I prefer truth. But I just can’t see one over-the-top bipolar mean fag doing the conservative cause real harm with his blog. I suppose if I had sent him money and been insulted personally I would be as pissed off as you guys. I guess I’m just not. I won’t defend him as a wonderful person (bipolar mean fag) but I think he’s more use alive than dead.

This comment is being moderated. There is a boundary being crossed within your posts of personal belittleing attacks. The use of NON-vulgar or inflamatory crass descriptives to reflect behavior would be appreciated. We do not accept personal attacks toward eachother, therefore we will not condone personal hate-based vulgarities toward another, even one we disagree strongly with. Please accept the position and speak toward specific facts, frame your opinion, but avoid “hate-speech” type descriptives. Thanks.

I don’t think C4P has made any kind of formal announcement. They still list Hillbuzz on the blogroll and KDJ as a contributor, BUT during the brief time that their new site was up (before it got attacked by hackers) he was no longer listed as a contributor. It will be interesting to see if that is the case when the new site goes up again. I’m not even sure it’s fair to say they gave him the boot–only that they decided to part ways because there were SO MANY C4Peeps who wanted nothing to do with him.

Here’s how I see him hurting conservatives or conservative causes. Let’s say SP has openly and publically endorsed him and his site. Then the USO thread hits where he uses foul language and broad generalizations to berate conservatives generally and his readers specifically, including someone who claims to be a war widow. You don’t think the MSM would try to use that against her? This is the same group that was trying to find a child molester at a Joe Miller rally to use against her.

Or let’s say Andrew Breitbart hires him to start a Big Tolerance site, then it comes out that KDJ has been using his blog for years to defraud people. You saw what they tried to do Breitbart when they thought that kid (forgetting his name–O’Keif?) broke into Sen. Ladrieu’s office.

With the enemies conservatives are making, high profile operatives on our side have to be squeaky clean. Period. As long as he operates his little blog in Boystown he cannot do much harm (save to those who are suckered into donating to him). I would be very, very suspicious and concerned if he were ever given a bigger platform.

Oh, and for the record, I’m not comfortable with the “mean fag” moniker–no matter who it’s directed at. But that’s just me.

I saw your comments over at HB on the recent Hillary thread and the same questions occurred to me: if HRC is so powerful why did she “let” O win the presidency–unless of course that is what she wanted to happen. The mental gymnastics KDJ has to go through to maintain his support for HRC while still opposing O are dizzying.

To me, that post is evidence both that KDJ is not conservative and that he is potentially harmful to whatever conservative cause or candidate he associates with. He claims to have undying admiration and respect for HRC, but his description of her paints her as nothing more than a vindictive and power hungry politician. With friends like that . . . . One cannot believe the things he writes about HRC and simultaneously both: (1) admire and respect her and (2) call yourself a conservative. If you’re a conversative, you may respect her in the way that you respect a very dangerous animal, but admiration doesn’t enter the equation and you want her nowhere near any positions of power or authority.

Popped in at HB this morning to check on a couple of things. It intrigues me that Kevin has mentioned nothing (that I can find) about Hillary Chavez’ reuninon with her friend, Hugo. Nor have any of his commenters. Why on earth isn’t somebody asking questions? They should be embarrasssed….and certainly, he should be. Secondly, I don’t see anything on either yesterday or today’s open threads about his extensive mention/links to Michelle Malkin’s piece. Why isn’t he trumpeting what important circles he is moving in, as his habit has been before?

Although I know I should be spending my time more productively, sometimes sheer morbid curiosity compels me to go lurk at HB, just to see what (if anything) is going on there. I rarely read Kevin’s posts; I usually go straight to the comments and scroll through them to see who is there. Lately most of the people commenting are unfamiliar to me, and I assume most of them probably arrived on the scene after the USO debacle and purge.

But what has interested me most lately (once again, my morbid curiosity is to blame here) is who I’m NOT seeing… namely, Bev. She used to be Kevin’s biggest groupie and most prolific commenter, but lately she hasn’t been there at all. Did she and Kevin break up? Or is she just on a really, really long vacation?

In Bev’s absence, Aussie seems to have taken over the job of the Comment Gestapo, and it’s kind of funny watching her scolding and browbeating Carmelo — who persists in saying things Aussie doesn’t approve of, even though Aussie has warned him repeatedly to stop doing it. Carmelo never responds to her scolding and just keeps saying what he thinks. I think it’s giving her an ulcer. (Speaking of Carmelo, he has said some very unkind things about the repeal of DADT, which makes me wonder why he hasn’t been banished from HB. In fact it makes me wonder if Kevin is reading the comments at all.)

Occasionally I’m tempted to try posting a comment, just to see if it gets through… but I haven’t done it yet, mostly because if I do try, and my comment gets through, then I will know that I haven’t been banned — which would hurt my feelings, since it would mean I don’t rank with Sundance, AFinch, and others of you who were important enough for Kevin to ban.

Ohayo Minna Honey-Chan!

I have been caught in ponderings and unexpected emails from the host of our former gathering place. I admit, I’m not sure how to proceed. Should I answer the kind greetings? Or ignore? I’m leaning toward answering– if he’s reaching out, the least I can do is reach back. If he bites the hand that feeds, I can hit his nose with a newspaper and throw him outside with a stern “Bad Boy!”

However, I wouldn’t want folk to think I was off gossiping about them behind their backs– you know how the internets can be, when three stray words in a conversation spark rumors and whispers and the next thing anyone knows, Obama’s not just an alien, but an Alien, from Centauri Prime, and he’s pining for the Glorious Days of the Former Republic. (Ah, if only!)
. . .

In the meantime, here’s to the ending of 2010! It was an interesting, educational year, to say the least. I learned a lot about America this year. I learned a lot about people– about how there’s still goodness and honor. And about how utterly lost we are without God constantly intervening to nudge us away from the Abyss. So, a productive year, in that account. . .

*AFinch says:

By “host of our former gathering place,” I assume you mean Kevin DuJan. It’s interesting that he is emailing you. I have not received anything from him. I wonder why.

No one here can tell you what you should do or how you should respond. You know the answer. I would only urge you, as I would urge anyone where he is concerned, to proceed with caution.

oZMalfoy says:

Yes. Caution is why I’m thinking this over. He and I met after 8/28, and I’d sent him a few things now and then, so that’s how he has my email. I hate cutting people off entirely– and if he’s reaching out, I hate to be the royal witch that smacks him back down. OTOH, yes, caution.
ponder, ponder, ponder!

Again–I find it curious that he is emailing you. I also met him–several times–and I also sent him a few things–namely $600. He has my email, phone number and business address, and I have extended multiple public invitations to him to discuss what happened at his site. But I’ve not heard a peep from him. Then again, I also have no problem with being a royal witch–especially if I think I’m being played.

I don’t think choosing sensible boundaries based on things you have learned about an individual should be described as being the royal witch that smacks him down. You are not responsible for his perceptions about decisions you make.

This piqued my curiosity, so journeyed
over there just now. I guess when you can’t
get enough comments to a thread, a solution
seems to be just throw up something sexual:
it will always get hits! Whereas a dry, political
item may languish . . . .

Oh, and I see the countdown-to-new-site
donation meter is up & running . . .

huhn. I haven’t been over since I got AliRose’s invitation to come here.

I think I’ll stew on this a while. ^_^

Hey NeeNee–I removed the link from your post. The man is a fraud. We’re not going to send hits to his site from the trail–I know that wasn’t your intent, but the effect is the same.

Oops, sorry. I didn’t think about
that. Thanks for the reminder.

I can’t believe that someone who has bilked many people out of hard earned $$ and then not used it as the people who ponied up intended – has the cajones to keep asking people for more $$$. Wasn’t this new site of his supposed to happen any minute – like 4 months ago? Would love to put a warning to all who go there about the dangers of donating $$ to this fraud but know it would never see the light of day over there.

The man is shameless and has no conscience to keep doing this begging over & over & over. He obviously has no remorse for what he’s done in the past and has no intention to change. TXMom, JRD, NeeNee, myself & and others here were on HB prior to the election in 08. He left us high and dry and never apologized – just ranted & raved about what horrible people *we* were to have started a new site. Then he went on the rampage that led another great group of people to leave HB & start this great site. Again – no apology. He will continue to do this to more unsuspecting people and I may be hard-nosed, but I would not be able to cut him *any* slack. He’s a user and an abuser of people’s trust & good nature. He’s a horrible little man!

Actually it was supposed to be “in the works” Nov/Dec 2009 up and running Jan/Feb 2010, then again “in the works” before the November 2010 elections, now “in the works”Jan/Feb 2011… blah… blah…. blah…

Although it appears the boyz are comprised of only one person, he specifically begged for donations enough to send four people to 8/28. Too bad there isn’t some way to warn newbies in the event a new trip comes up with similar pleadings.

AFinch, when I read today’s first post, I knew, or hoped, to see you on it. I could not help but smile when the very next post had the shepard icon, the guard dog. It was just so perfect. You have handled this, (not specific to the above, but rather the whole matter), so professionally and diplomatically, it could not have been done better. I owe you a special thanks because I did not want to move on without it being spelled out and analysed the way that you did and continue to do. I just plain like it.

I still go from slimedog con man to sicko, and believe it somewhere in between, but no matter what, he still has lucid moments to do what’s right and had many opportunities to apologize and ‘reach out’ to those of us who invited such. There is nothing to be gained by indulging his random overtures to selected victims when the vast majority remains at large.

(I would also add we stopped being victims and became victors as soon as we made the break and found our honeys =)

SDJ insert smiley party animals here: of course I get on so late i wonder who will ever get back here to read this =(

Hi, Honeys:
I haven’t checked this thread for awhile, so have been catching up.

ZMalfoy, I cannot believe the gall of KD in contacting you. Ugh…the NERVE!
By now you have no doubt made your decision to respond or not, but I thought I’d throw my 2¢ out there, anyway.
I agree with Frankie 100%. Please remember that Dujan is only out for himself!
He has absolutely no remorse for what he did, and the only reason he is ‘reaching out’ is because he knows he has ‘burned his bridges’ and is now screwed. (“…if he’s reaching out, the least I can do is reach back.” Please don’t feel any such obligation. He is just trying to USE you, and take advantage of your goodwill!)

I look in over there once in awhile just out of perverse curiosity, and his ‘hits’ are down to a trickle. Even Keverley and the pompous Aussie are rare sightings anymore.
And yes, he is beating the drum for donations for the new, improved ‘website’, from the new, unsuspecting ‘crowd’.
“Plus ça change, plus ce la même chose.” (The more things change, the more they remain the same.)

Whoa….this thread has takin’ a lickin’, and has kept on tickin’!

I was busy linking this thread to someone else’s site that had mentioned Hillbuzz…just giving them a heads-up so to speak. Thought I’d scroll down and see if there was and life…and yes, SHE LIVES!

BTW….Ditto everything BiJou says too.

Hey, I’m definitely late to the party. Haven’t visited HB much over the last few months or so, just on and off. Got tired of the conservative blaming/bashing couch-potato stuff and I thought a lot of the stuff was just “off” – like a lot of the blogs were just phoned in or something. Then came the Mike-Pence-is-not-a-conservative-post. Say what?? Thought that was really strange, to say the least as did most if not all the commenters.

Then, my sister sent me the link to this story. Wow. So strange. I checked out the site this morning and skimmed some of the articles, and realized what’s off: I don’t think Kevin is writing these articles anymore. Or he never wrote the others and he is now writing these. Whatever. My point is that they’re boring as hell with none of the funny sarcasm that was always displayed in his previous postings. Whoever is writing these uses the same words, but the spontaneity is gone, the heart is gone.

So who is writing as “Kevin” and where did the other Kevin (as we knew him) go? And why the scamming as noted in the comments?

Welcome California Jo!!! (I’m a Californian myself…my real name is really close to yours.) Seems like you’re getting all the same vibes that the rest of us are…things there just don’t add up. I notice he no longer lists the people that contribute to his site either…could Eric4h (sp?) be writing some of the posts?

Welcome to the party!
I have not checked this thread since I found Honey Trail – but I have found that which drew me to this group of people within the comments- both old and new- of this awesome group of people. We do not wish to worship false idols and when such a one is discovered we, alone and together, become educated and reject that idol. We love our country and seek to further not only discussion but solutions regarding the direction this ass-ministration, our (previously) democratic controlled congress, and media have taken our nation. Free speech, debate, shared knowledge, and heartfelt support of others is the fare you will recieve here.
