2. Hillbuzz 11/7/10 Thread About The Thread

The shocked Hillbuzzer reaction to the USO post makes the Sunday open thread as much an endangered species as the piping plover. Or, dare I say it, the Dodo.

not quite. there are large numbers of gay conservatives out there ( no pun intended ) . Here for example;
http://www.goproud.org/
as well as log cabin republicans who have gained traction in the community due to this administration’s backtracking on gay issues. Would be nice to give the site some credit, but I’d rather give it to the community itself which is realizing that putting its’ eggs all in one basket is counterproductive.

Just to be clear, with this comment I was referring to things generally (i.e., physical exhaustion after working so hard against Schakowsky etc.), not the particularities of the potential hacking of the site that may have taken place (see the thread on the USO), which I became aware of only after perusing this one.

I know that, I’m one of them. I do think the Boyz are important and should be recognized for having a hand in helping people open up their minds and see the real agenda of what the Dems have been up to.

I also think that this wonderful Hillbuzz community has done more to dispel the stereotypes on both sides than anything out there. People from around the country and the world coming together having mature, adult discussions has been an amazing breathe of fresh air.

As a californian I can only say thet the welfare state’s rent takers, the third world leeches and grifters & criminals that have breached our borders, and the residue of the sixties Haigh Hashbury along with their drug dulled progeny have come to be the majority of the population in this state. Many others are now assuredly planning an exit. My wife retires March 31 and we are then gone. The long Thanksgiving weekend is going to be house hunting time in no state income tax Nevada.
The downward spiral long underway since the last reign of Jerry Moonbeam is going to accelerate as the state collapses and anarchy rules the streets under Medfky Brown. Jerry the Jerk & the democraps in Sacramento believe they can raise taxes and punish the private sector& the propertied without end.

Had a really great moment on Saturday with an old friend who works in the market in the town where we grew up. He’s always so sweet but downtrodden. We got to yapping and I asked him about other old friends…he told me how he worked the polls on Tuesday for one of them who is now a conserv, and that another one of the gang was working along with him.

You have to understand…when I hung out with these guys I was the old lady in the crowd at 30. I had to threaten to boycott a 4th of July party where they were planning to burn the Flag in order for them to get me to agree to attend. I went to the party, and they didn’t burn the Flag (because they were good guys at heart, and I have very fond memories of them) but that was the night I broke up with the boy in that crowd that I was dating. This was around the time when I first turned right, though it would take a little while before I realized it.

And 10 years later at least three of them have come to their senses.

Yes, I am in an over-sharing mood tonight. : )

I can share too … now I understand why PA has turned red.

My hair stylist who is a dyed in the wool Dem, voted straight ticket Republican, the first time in her life.

She still has major liberal leanings, and these things don’t evaporate overnight; however, she sounds like a conservative Republicans when she speaks (especially on the economy, she is fed up).

She knows it, and is taken aback by it.

She doesn’t like the teacher unions one bit now that her child is in school.

I was trying to tell that the teacher unions are a major constituency in the Dem party, and I don’t think she FULLY understands yet.

My anecdotal evidence (in a very purplish area) echoing what Kevin is saying, that the Dems are royally screwed, and people are fleeing the party in droves.

I am so thankful that the open minded Dems, and Indies in PA made the conscious choice not to be like NY & CA, especially on the state level.

As a federal contractor, it sounds like he’s violated the Hatch Act [no politicking on government time or dime] and I also believe, as a supervisor/employer, he is coercing his employees to vote a certain way – which is also a voting act violation. Not sure whether it’s a felony or not – but pretty sure he could be knocked out of bidding on any federal jobs in the future.

I agree with this. We don’t know who posted, what was going through their head, what was taken the wrong way (it IS the internet, after all, we don’t have inflection or tone-of-voice here to give us proper cues), and all we know is that something spiraled out of control. Speculation will only serve to make us upset and paranoid.

I believe that everyone had good intentions and that something just sort of… happened. I had a great response to this effect early on in the other thread, but it didn’t get posted for whatever reason, and I’m sure with the influx of ranty-rants going on it will be a while to sort through the spam filters and it may not get posted- that’s fine.

The point is… give everyone here the benefit of the doubt, because the internet is famous for making people take things the wrong way. Let’s all calm down and just wait and see. We care about each other as a community, let’s not start infighting just yet.

From what I have read from him in the past, I doubt he would tell someone not to post because they dont volunteer at a particular organization, and when would he treat someone who lost a family member for this country so terribly? I am crossing my fingers and hoping that someone else had hijacked it because it was so unlike Hillbuzz. I agree with you and if I dont see any apology or something soon, I doubt I will be back, which is really disappointing because I love the insight and hardwork from these guys.

civility had nothing to do with it. You have a comment section on a site to elicit comments pure and simple. Handling trolls deftly is an art form. censoring like minded, long time posters is another.

Thankfully, you’re not the blog police.

Kevin can have a comments section for whatever the heck he wants a comments section for. He be artful or full of crap–his choice. He could have a whole site full of false personas and have conversations with himself about how what a handsome devil he is if he wanted to. It’s HIS business. And if we want to come check it out, that’s OUR business.

Unless of course we’re all Kevin and we disagree with ourselves. Then it’s a little more complicated.

I have been reading and contributing here for over a year and have never seen Kevin ban anyone for not agreeing with him. He bans trolls who insult him and why wouldn’t he? If I had a blog and someone wrote and told me what I could or could not say or wrote something that insulted me or someone I cared about I would ban them, too.

There are people on the left willing to do ANYTHING to disrupt this blog. Don’t think they aren’t trying daily to crack in and start trouble.

I see some of you have gotten the “treatment” that Kevin dishes out to those with whom he disagrees.

I am one of those two women he so vividly described in his “4th-wall” post awhile back. I have the email to prove that I did not say what I’m accused of saying, and that the 3 offending paragraphs were spent primarily in praising HB (and him), although I did suggest a proofreader to make his work shine even more…now that he was hitting the big time and would be getting greater scrutiny.

I’ve also read the other offender’s kind and gently-concerned email about the Mormons. That poor woman was totally misrepresented!

I had not posted here since, and had no intention of doing so–and if this makes it to the comments (and stays), I’ll be SHOCKED!–but I doubt the comments came from someone in Mama’s basement, eating Cheetos.

Actually, after reading your posts here and I went and looked and I saw something entirely different.

The title of the thread is about volunteering at the USO and what have you done to help. Everyone kept taking the conversation on a middle school emotional roller coaster ride and HB kept bringing it right back to the point of the thread.

It sounded childish…The ENTIRE point of the thread was LOST because everyone wanted to whine and complain and assume a bunch of CRAP.

How many of you listed your charitable contributions to the USO and how many of you jumped into the cluster F*** of whining and complaining???

He asked a SIMPLE QUESTION and everybody jumped all over him. Accused him of stuff…built up this huge thread of nonsense. He did not insult anybody. He did not accuse or offend anyone. He asked a simple question and all of you just ran with a theme like you had some thorn in your side and had to take it out on him.

Kevin does not deserve that. Or the HB boyz.

Hillbuzz can ask us what we do without all of the insults about conservatives sitting on their butts.

If I think he’s out of line, I will say so. If he doesn’t like that then he can ban me.

I have always (before this) given him the benefit of the doubt, and defended him on other sites, such as Lucianne, but this was over the top.

When you read enough of what a person posts on a regular enough basis, you know enough of the typical posts to know whether something is in keeping with what you expect or not. The degree to which that reflects all the inner musings of the poster is not something any of us can know on the Internet. Not necessary to challenge Bev on that.

Bev, the HB reply to Shelby68, who lost her husband, offered no kind of sympathy whatsoever and included, “Am dying to hear why you are too busy or important to volunteer.” It was completely lacking in sensitivity and not what people are used to hearing at HB, even when HB is challenging us to be better, work harder, be more honest with ourselves.

It was unnecessarily confrontational and not typical for HB. I’m surprised you can’t see how that might offend someone.

I am more inclined to question WHY a military widow would be compelled to go on a thread about volunteering for the USO and insult the USO. That’s crazy.

How insulting is it to DEMAND Kevin do ANYTHING!!! That is so arrogant. All the things he does….The exposure he gives us…the voice he gives us…and you have the audacity to DEMAND he show sympathy to someone we don’t even know is telling the truth who INSULTED the USO on a thread Kevin asked us to volunteer to help??

Sorry…this makes me very angry. All of you..turning your backs and accusing Kevin of crap over ONE POST who for all we know is some 65-year-old pervert sitting naked in his mother’s basement eating Cheetohs.

This is the first comment from shelby68 on that thread:

“Thank you JoAnn!!! Using a large paintbrush to color is most ineffective.”

Explain exactly how that is trashing the USO? The worst that shelby68 said about the USO is that it is not an organization that gets her charitable time or treasure.

And the whole tone of the thread seemed harsher than what many people are used to, so many people wondered what was up. That makes me insulting, arrogant, and means I have too much audacity? WOW. Don’t dare to disagree, huh?

Normally I might be inclined to agree with you, except for the outright disrespect for the poster who said her former husband gave the ultimate sacrifice.

I too went back and read the post. HB did more than ask a simple question, he/she proceeded to accuse all conservatives of failing to engage in charitable activity of any kind. When some people pushed back, rather than acknowledge the hasty generalization, HB started berating people in the comments to reveal their precise charitable contributions — which many of us are not comfortable sharing even with close friends.

Of course this a private blog and HB can do as it pleases, but posts like that are no way to attract or keep a following. I suspect many who are visiting for the first time after hearing about the open letter to Rush will not stick around. And many of us who have been here for a while will not be back.

Kevin insulted everybody? I don’t feel insulted. I feel compassionate for someone who has worked incredibly hard to save my country for 2+ years and is exhausted from taking flack from both the left and the right.

…”as if it were his own world.”

Hillbuzz IS Kevin’s own world. We’re just guests.

“There was no excuse for this miserable performance…”

There are lots of excuses. The DemocRAT Underground, Daily Koz, random lefty trolls, and Boyztown residents who are too frightened of Lefty attacks to even be seen with Kevin, much less date him.

Until complete strangers have hurled lies and insults and slander at you on a daily basis on the Interwebs–and you’re powerless to stop them–you have no idea what it’s like and how draining it can be.

Great people have bad days. Expecting someone (anyone) to be perfect is to set yourself up for disappointment.

Kevin has done more, as an individual, to stop the socialist takeover of America than (probably) all of his readers put together.

He has my respect and appreciation, and my forgiveness for any bad days he suffers through.

Seriously…you have NO IDEA how hard it is to be the subject of vicious, cowardly attacks on a daily basis. It’s psychological warfare. And comments like yours are aiding and abetting the Alinskyites, who want to divide and destroy the wonderful coalition Kevin has created.

Moreover, Bev, he was demanding to know ANY deeds done for the USO or any deeds we do for any charities at all. And if we don’t name them fast enough to suit him, we are accused of sitting on our asses.

With all due respect and affection to Kevin and you…it is my business and MINE ALONE, if I choose to spend hours per week working with my autistic nephew. To assist this 16 year old to read, and learn. As he wakes up each morning and deliberately slams himself into the walls of the house. He has the skills of a 9 year old. Because that’s just what he does.

I have a father who is nearly 80 years old, and if I’m lucky, he will get off the flight in Vegas and recognize my sister. I have a stubborn mother in Ohio with a massive brain tumor that she refuses to treat. She is 78.

My son is 25 and the greatest thing ever. He is overcoming his Tourette’s Syndrome. He manages a restaurant and has earned his real estate license. He works like a dog. I work with him every day, as he calls me 2500 miles.

I’m in no mood to be lectured to, with respect to how I spend my time.

If you became objective, in some way, and read the posts that way, you would know that any sane person would conclude that the host was having some sort of freaky “out of body” experience.

As a friend, I would keep my mouth shut and instead of jumping into the fight and blaming him or accusing him or assuming the rumor was correct…I would wait and see what the explanation was. Having my friend’s best interest at heart that’s what I’d do. If I did NOT have my friend’s best interest in mind I would add to the conversation and insult him more. Buzzers, I read the main thread topic (not sure of the originator), and said to myself “what the heck”? This didn’t seem in the least bit Buzzlike.

It was filled with MASSIVE judgements about the willingness of “us” to engage in charitable altruism.

Knowing that no-one on this site actually knows what myself and my family do to refect love, compassion, and light into the world of those around us I decided to stay off the thread and just never even opened a single comment. I was perplexed by the tone of “judgemental anger” and even though I wanted to just state my charity, in a kind of “how dare you” sort of way, I decided not to enter or ‘go there’.

But now I read these comments I am even more concerned. I am headed to that thread to read the comments.

I tried to post a comment on the USO thread. Something, something wierd just ain’t right here folks.

It can’t be Kevin, I’m 95% sure of it. Lets settle down and wait for an explanation. My sense is either:

1. The recent Hillbuzz publicity has led to the host site being compromised.

or

2. An emotional fracture has occurred between the Buzz Boyz HQ and some vitriol is coming from a disenchanted collegue.

Let us be prudent and await a reply from Kevin Dujan directly. We are a kind, loving, and understanding community filled with the best hearted peeps on the net. We are responding emotionally to a challenge in what we believe ‘Hillbuzz’ is all about. But, something just ain’t right. I have been around here for over a year and a half. I have never seen Buzzquarter postings so confrontational and bitter. Something just ain’t right.

And to all you who feel the responses from ‘hillbuzz’ were innappropriate at best, and hurtful at worst, you are correct to feel that way. And you deserve an explanation.

But we know that is not the tone of this site. We know that. So let us see what has happened and delay judgement. Stay kind, loving, and as warm and brilliant as you always are and let us wait for explanation.

Love you ALL !!!

Praying for some rational explanation right now. Ugh, ugh, ugh. :(

This does not seem to make sense and the two options — either the site was hacked or compromised in some way or some internal conflict surfaced were my thoughts as well. The last thing we need to do is turn into a circular firing squad when so much more of importance is at stake. We need to hang together.

Kevin and his crew have been such a courageous and dynamic influence, in both word and action that we cannot let this strange and suspiciously uncharacteristic post wipe out all that we KNOW is good about him.

This is all starting to remind me of the Doctor Who episode Midnight, where fear basically manifests itself within the small confined group and makes everyone slowly freak out and become completely irrational, to the point of discussing murder and turning against each other, and refusing to listen to logic…

NOT that I’m saying we’re doing that, of course, but we are all kind of churning around here in the comments and turning on each other and freaking out and questioning people’s motives.

Let’s take a deep breath and listen to logic. Things were taken the wrong way, things might not have been what they seemed, there was a lot of emotion involved, people on both sides felt insulted… it’s the internet, I’m pretty sure that’s a law, lol.

Why don’t we stop worrying about it for right now and just see what happens? The love for the cause and for our fellow man is more important.

I’ve seen all the new episodes and I’m working on Torchwood right now, then we’re planning on going back to all of the old classic episodes via the wonder of Netflix.

And LOL I am actually building a River Song Pandorica costume right now (on the cheap) to go with my husband’s Ten costume for something coming up this weekend. Yes, yes, Ten wasn’t at Pandorica, but I’m claiming their continuously crossed timelines as an excuse!

To clear a couple of things up:

-FranklyTheNut is no more a troll than I am. She deleted her Gravatar account after being on the receiving end of a nasty missive from Kevin, followed by public (though nameless) derision.

-I know the above because the only reason I am here at all is because of an email that I received from her, not only informing me of the brouhaha, but also asking for me to join her in prayers for Hillbuzz.

-I don’t think the site was hacked.

You may have noticed that I have a new gravatar. It’s a decent representation of how Kevin made me feel after attacking me both personally and here on Hillbuzz (though, again, namelessly) after I made a heartfelt attempt at correcting an error I was sure was made in ignorance, not malice. I know that he has run into more than his share of Benedict Arnolds in recent history, but he needs to get better at distinguishing friend from foe at risk of chasing away the former and leaving himself surrounded by the latter.

She needs to understand that her top and bottom are out of proportion to each other (omitting any comment on her wide bottom). Even through she is a tall person, I bet she is a petite on the top (short from shoulder to waist) and regular/tall on the bottom (waist to foot). She should NEVER wear different tops and bottoms or a belt – it just magnifies that her top part is short in comparison to her bottom.

Fitted dressed with a princess line would be far better for her.

That said, no self-respection Indian woman would’ve put them together. Except to sell them to MO to see if she would buy the line that they are clothes that the “little people” in Delhi use for daily wear.

People being horrified by what Michelle Obama wears always amuses me. NOT because her outfits aren’t terrible, because they are, but… have you SEEN some of the stuff that’s actually counted as “fashion”? I swear that these people get together to purposely come up with the worst possible stuff and fall down laughing when people start wearing it.

Fashion is about pushing an envelope and coming up with more creative ways to do clothes, like any other art. It has nothing to do with actually flattering the person wearing it or making them look attractive or put together. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these looks are actually trendy in the high fashion world.

After election I‘m seeing good news about Rubio and how they are positioning him as prospective president. I know is exceptive because he is Hispanic , but this is same LSM people that LOVES… ØB!

Here’s an excerpt:
I never expected to write this letter, but my Mom e-mailed me to get information about my career for a writeup on Veterans Day, and as this is the first such holiday in 22 years when I will not be on active duty, I felt compelled to let you know why I decided to quit.
Quit is a strong word, I know. Everyone I’ve talked to has repeated that I’ve had a marvelous career and that I’ve retired with honor. Maybe that’s true on paper; I guess that it’s reflected by the record. But that’s not how I feel. I feel like I’ve quit. And because I’m not a quitter, I feel I have to explain why — not that anyone is asking, but because perhaps they don’t know to ask.

Reply
Tim Says:

November 7, 2010 at 3:44 pm
Well the media and the opponents call them controversial, most here viewed them as common sense. I’m not too worried about 755 being overturned about the sharia issue. The international law part worries me a bit more. That might have some legs to it as international law covers treaties and trade agreements and it the trade agreements where the worries come in. Here in Oklahoma we have the Port of Catoosa and if I remember correctly it’s one of the largest inland ports here in the States. Simply put banning international law from being considered in our courts might interfere with our states economic interests as well as U.S. economic interests. 755 might just get overturned for those reasons if somebody challenges it on those grounds. If that happens I hope a new state question will be put on the next statewide ballot that will stick strictly to banning sharia law. I believe the people of Oklahoma would vote if favor of banning sharia again if they had to.

Ad rem Says:

I’m pretty sure the original intent of the initiative was to keep Sharia law from getting a foothold in our legal system. It’s sad how CAIR and the ACLU threaten to undermine our system of government with these costly lawsuits. Why, if the Dems didn’t force us to seek oil from Islamic countries, those countries wouldn’t have so much money with which to wage legal war on us would they? All part of the plan?

But Bev, I have to say that emotions are understandably high at the moment and it probably did some good that, instead of running around in circles screaming blue murder, people have got to the point where they are trying to make sense of a difficult situation.

Insensitive and hurtful words (no matter how they originate) can turn wings into broomsticks for a lot of people.

The good that’s come out of this is that we will look twice, think about whence the information is coming and weigh up the odds of it being from a troll or hacker. No more accepting things at face value simply because we’re on the HB site. We are all vulnerable but few more than the HB Boyz who constantly put themselves in the line of fire. Just calling Kevin or Hillbuzz out on something does not make someone a troll. And just because it may not have bothered you doesn’t mean that you get to tell us how to feel about it – you can feel like it was about absolutely nothing, but I was irritated by the post and I have a very high tolerance rate for that kind of stuff. What, if anything, do any of you make of this?? Read the whole thing; this is not some anonymous insider talking here. Under the circumstances it is difficult to simply reject it out of hand.

This is pretty much what I’ve been hearing from former K St. colleagues and Hill associates here in DC … not so much “reign of terror” as a President who’s cracking up and breaking down and was essentially shipped out of the US for a “cooling off period.” With respect to the use of Article 25, Section 4, I’d also heard from a couple folks that if it were going to be done, it’d be done while Obama’s out of the country … I’ve also heard that it’s one of the reasons Pelosi wants to stay on … to help remove him from office … another reason, perhaps to avail herself of legislative privilege in the event of impeachment and/or Article 25 proceedings and investigations (I’m not sure how much that would shield her, though.) Having lived here since the 70′s, I’d say that the stuff in this article is only the bare tip of the iceberg … the only thing I haven’t heard about is VooDoo Grandma being involved in running things … just jokes about why the free range chickens in MO’s backyard organic farm keep disappearing … ;-)

Praying daily for our Country, our Constitution, and our Bill of Rights and for our leaders has become one of my main projects +++

Pelosi would be the Minority Leader.

The succession of the Speaker is only relevant if both POTUS and VP are taken out at the same time.

When Watergate happened, Spiro Agnew the VP was taken out first. Senator Ford was nominated to take his place. Then Nixon was more or less forced to resign.

Ford then nominated his new VP. At no time did it go to either the Senate Majority leader or to the Speaker.

Sorry, but if people are saying that, then they are second-guessing and they have it wrong.

HillBuzz basically asked what have you done for the troops.

Why is that so offensive?

If you have done nothing for them but a bunch for other charities then he is right to ask/remind you. If you have done lots for the troops then the USO thread DOESN’T apply to you!

I find it interesting that conservatives are fine with liberals and Dems getting the HillBuzz lumps but if that snark is pointed at you suddenly there is a problem. Hypocritical much?

Lost in all this conservative outrage is the forgotten thread in Kevin’s life that donating time to USO provided. He has always shared his interest in the military and finally found a way he could donate his time and admiration of the military. Why would anyone be offended at a life changing event in his life….that he trying to share with people…..in order to benefit the troop?

Man Up! The troops barely get any air time on the nightly news and the USO is often just presented as an eqo trip for rock stars and actors to give back. There is a lot more that the USO does and asking what have you done for those forgotten troops lately isn’t offensive.

Their lives are on the line and you guys are whining over what exactly? Hurt fee-fees? Please!

Are you serious!? LOL I have been here from practically the start of the site.

So when a bunch of whiners attacked HillBuzz….I called them on it.

Hurt fee fees over a post vs donating time to the troops who are putting their lives on the line. What a shallow argument, pretending that standing up for HillBuzz, is attacking conservative! That is where you draw your line in the sand…for the hurt fee fee crowd!?

Please…how utterly lame!

I stand with HillBuzz and their call to support the troops for the holidays! And I am proud of it!

Bizarre that this actually has to be said on this site.

If it doesn’t bother the Boyz that lots of us will not post again until the blatant disrepect of a fallen soldier’s widow is acknowledged, and apologised for, then by all means, carry on with your holier-than-thou attitude, accompanied by your accusatory “you deserved it” mantra.

I forgot to add that if you have been here since the inception of HillBuzz, why don’t you have a Gravatar? And, did you notice MY Gravatar, oh ye of hurt fee fees? I’ve got a free afternoon if you want to hear about what I have done for the Wounded Warrriors. Otherwise, put a sock in it.

Hurt fee fees vs troops who are risking their lives.

I don’t have the ‘holier-than-thou attitude’ and ‘you deserved it’ mantra. I noted the difference that conservatives here take when the snark is pointed at them and rather than liberals. Like it or not. If you can dish it out but you can’t take it…that is hypocritical.

Also the indignation started before the lady with the ‘former husband’ who gave the ‘ultimate sacrifice’ posted. She didn’t really call herself a ‘fallen soldier’s widow’ but when looking at the time stamps. It looks like HillBuzz went down the list of whiners and posted the same basic question.

“What have you done for the troops?”

Like it or not that isn’t an offensive question to ask a military widow even if he saw that she was one.

If anything it honors her husband by a stranger thinking of the troops. Of all the vets I know, the bonding experienced in war and to the soldiers who are still alive, run deep. Without fail they want the men who have passed and are still alive to be appreciated….even if they never served together.

You can still pretend hurt fee fees are more important than appreciating the troops. But I can’t and won’t….military families know the deal. Chances are high your beloved father, husband, son, wife, daughter might not come home during war.

The argument still stands even with the victim card thrown by you. Donating time to troops vs hurt fee fees over a post…ugh…makes my stomach turn it is so lame.

As someone who’s been to more military funerals by 33 than I’d care to go to in my entire life, I seriously, SERIOUSLY doubt she felt honored. The assertion that she should is absolutely ludicrous.
